A short update on Pearl

A short update on Pearl

What is happening

Today, core contributor Valory made the conscious decision to reduce the number of agents available in Pearl for the foreseeable future. In particular, Optimus, the Agents.fun agent and Polystrat will be moved into maintenance (“under construction”) mode.

For now, users will not be able to create new agents of these types. Existing users of these agents will still be able to use these agents but staking will only be available for these agents until the current incentives in the associated staking contracts run out.

The above changes do not apply to Omenstrat. It remains available as-is for new users and will see further staking incentives added.

Why this is happening

Polystrat has been affected by the numerous updates Polymarket has made in recent weeks. While last week’s update was navigated successfully, the most recent wallet update presents a significant challenge.

Pearl is designed with self-custody in mind. The new Polymarket wallet architecture is incompatible with Pearl’s existing Safe-based architecture. As a result, a fundamental rewrite of the Pearl and Polystrat codebase, as well as related off-chain indexing, would be required to allow new users to onboard into Polystrat under the same security and usability principles.

Optimus and Agents.fun have seen reduced adoption and will receive no further updates in their current form following this lack of demand.

What is next

As a core contributor to Olas, Valory will continue its commitment to Pearl and its users. With this new direction, new users will still be able to use the Omenstrat agent in Pearl. Existing users will be able to use their existing agents. The Pearl Help Center will continue helping users with their issues.

However, due to Polymarket’s ongoing platform changes, it should be noted that continued use of your Polystrat agent is likely to result in unexpected, additional disruptions down the line.

Pearl is about owning your AI agent. An agent you own should be able to control its destiny. As core contributors to Olas, and building Pearl on Olas, Valory is aware that this externally imposed change presents a challenge to its vision. Valory will reflect on these learnings and follow up with updated thinking soon.
